Promectin

IVERMECTIN

INVESA, Spain

Injection solution

Composition:

Ivermevtin - 10g; Excipient - up to 1 ml;

Pharmacological characteristics:

Ivermectin is a drug of avermectin group, which is characterized with wide spectrum of antiparasite activities. Avermectines are products of macrocyclic fermentation of actinomicet Streptomices avermitilis.

Ivermectin increases secretion of gamma-amino-butyric acid that triggers destruction of transmitting of nervous impulses, which causes death of parasites.

Gamma-amino-butyric acid is observed in central nervous system in mammals. As it doesn't reach hematoencephalic barrier easily, it is safe to use it in this class of animals;

Drug is more effective, if injected under the skin compared with peroral administration. It is excreted from organism via bile and urine.

Swine - it is used against ecto and endo parasites:

Intestine tract nematodes (Grown-up forms and helminthes at the fourth stage of development) Askarida suum, Hyostrongylus rubidus, Oesophagostomum ransoni (grown-up forms only).

Lung nematodes- Metastrongylus spp. (grown-up forms).

Louse: Haematopinus suis.

Sheep: It is used against endo and ecto parasites:

Intestine tract helminthes (Grown-up and undeveloped forms): Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia circumcincta, O.trifurcata, Trichostrongylus axei (grown-up forms only), T.vitrinus (grown-up forms only), T. colubriformis, Nematodirus fillicolis, Cooperia curticei, Oesophagostomum colombianum, O. venulosum, Chabertia ovina, Truchuris ovis (grown-up forms only); Lung nematodes (Grown-up and undeveloped forms): Dyctiocaulus filaria, Protostrongylus rujesceus.

Sheep botfly: Oestrus ovis (every stage of worms).

Ticks: Sarcoptes scabiei, Psoroptes comunis (Ovis).

Dosage:

Cattle and sheep - 1 ml of promectin injection solution on 50 kg/b/w (which is equivalent to 0.2g of Ivermecttin on 1 kg b/w); Drug is injected under skin as a single dose;

Swine - 1,5 ml of promectin injection solution on 50 kg/b/w (which is equivalent to 0.3mg of Ivermecttin on 1 kg b/w); Drug is injected under skin as a single dose;

Contraindications:

No side effects are reported;

Side effects:

Some animals may have pains and inflammation at the place of injection. These reactions disappear themselves, without need of treatment.

Special warning:

It isn't used for injection in veins or muscles. Sterile equipments are used. Injection place must be processed with disinfectants in order to reduce risk of infecting with Clostridium. In case of such infection animals are treated with relevant antibiotics. Cattle are injected on the shoulder or on the back skin, swine - in neck or under the ear. If dose exceeds 10ml injection is made at different areas to avoid local reaction.

Promectin is effective for nematodes of every stage. Animals must be vaccinated immediately after finishing skin botfly (Hypoderma lineatum) spreading season;

Killing of Hypoderma worms when it is in vital zones may cause undesired reaction of organism. Killing of Hypoderma lineatum when it is in esophaguses tissues may cause increase of salivation. If it is in spine area, it may cause dizziness and paralysis. Thus cattle are vaccinated either before this period or after it;

Cattle that were treated with Promectin at the end of botfly spreading season can undergo treatment with the same drug in winter against endoparasites and louse without taking any risks.
