Pharmacological Properties

Doxalin is an antibacterial medicinal product belonging to the tetracycline group. It has a bacteriostatic effect against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, certain protozoa and mycoplasmas, including: Escherichia coli, Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Chlamydia spp., Listeria spp., Leptospira spp., Mycoplasma spp.

The mechanism of action of the product is based on inhibition of the activity of enzymes that catalyse the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to ribosomal acceptors. This blocks the interaction between aminoacyl-transfer RNA and messenger RNA, resulting in disruption of protein synthesis in the microbial cell.

Indications for Use

Used in poultry and pigs for bacterial respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, including salmonellosis, colibacillosis, enteritis, enzootic pneumonia, pasteurellosis, mycoplasmosis, and infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to doxycycline.

Administration and Dosage

The product is administered orally to poultry and pigs for individual or group treatment by adding it to drinking water at the following doses:

Poultry: 0.5–1 ml per 1 L of drinking water (equivalent to 50–100 mg of doxycycline per 1 L of drinking water). The course of treatment is 3–5 days.

Pigs: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight (equivalent to 10 mg of doxycycline per 1 kg body weight), once daily for 5 days.
