Pharmacological properties

Combined antimicrobial preparation whose action is determined by the synergistic effect of its components on microbial cells.

Chlortetracycline hydrochloride is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including:

Streptococcus spp., Haemophilus spp., Klebsiella spp., Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp., Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp.

The antibacterial mechanism is based on inhibition of protein synthesis by blocking ribosomal functions and suppressing RNA synthesis in microbial cells.

Gentian violet is an antiseptic dye exhibiting antibacterial and antifungal effects through interaction with acidic groups of microbial nucleoproteins.

Indications for use

Used in farm animals and dogs for infectious skin lesions:

  • treatment of wounds (including surgical and traumatic);

  • infectious lesions of horns and hooves (interdigital dermatitis);

  • treatment of open abscesses and ulcers.

Dosage and administration

Before application, clean the affected area from dirt and remove necrotic tissues.

Shake the aerosol container well before use.

Spray onto the affected area for 1–2 seconds from a distance of 10–20 cm.

After spraying, prevent the animal from licking the treated area for 5 minutes.

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the wound and healing rate, but should not exceed 10 days.

Shake the aerosol before each use.

Side effects

Allergic reactions on skin and mucous membranes may occur in animals sensitive to chlortetracycline.

Drug interactions:
Zinc reduces the activity of gentian violet.

Overdose

Since the product is intended for topical use, intoxication due to overdose is practically impossible.

During prolonged treatment in highly sensitive animals, dermopathy may occur, which disappears after discontinuation of treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to chlortetracycline.

Special precautions

If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product, wash the treated area and administer symptomatic therapy.

The product should be used in well-ventilated areas.
