Menbutile 10% (Menbutile 10%)
Injectable solution, for veterinary use.
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Agent acting on the digestive system. Choleretic agent.
ATCvet code: QA05AX90
Target species: Cattle, small ruminants (sheep, goats), pigs, horses, dogs.
Composition:
1 mL injectable solution contains:
Menbutone – 100 mg
Packaging: 100 mL vials.
Menbutyl increases bile secretion and the concentration of cholates in bile. It enhances the osmotic gradient between bile and blood, which strengthens the filtration of water and electrolytes into the bile capillaries, accelerates bile flow in the bile ducts, prevents gallstone formation, and stimulates intestinal motility and digestive activity.
Mechanism of action:
Menbutone stimulates secretory activity of exocrine glands of the digestive system: significantly increases bile secretion as well as the amount of pepsin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin. After intramuscular injection, menbutone is rapidly absorbed into the blood, reaches the liver, pancreas, and stomach. Maximum plasma concentration is achieved 60 minutes after administration, with therapeutic effect lasting up to 24 hours after a single dose. Menbutone is excreted mainly via urine, bile, and feces.
The product is used for all domestic animals requiring support for digestion and secretory processes. It normalizes the duodenogastric function of the stomach and gallbladder.
Cattle: for forestomach atony, tympany, ketosis, anorexia, hepatic insufficiency (hepatopathy), and pancreatic dysfunction.
Sheep, goats: for digestive disorders caused by hepatic insufficiency, intoxications, pancreatic dysfunction.
Pigs: for digestive disorders, anorexia, intoxications, hepatic insufficiency, pancreatic dysfunction.
Horses: for digestive disturbances, excessive intake of protein-rich feed, constipation, intestinal atony, colic, toxemia, anorexia, hepatic insufficiency, pancreatic dysfunction.
Dogs: for anorexia, constipation, intestinal atony, toxicosis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency, pancreatic dysfunction.
Administer intramuscularly (deep) or intravenously (slow).
Adult animals: 5–7.5 mg menbutone per 1 kg body weight (equivalent to 1 mL per 15–20 kg b.w.).
Young animals: 10 mg/kg (equivalent to 1 mL per 10 kg b.w.).
Horses: 2.5–5 mg/kg (equivalent to 1 mL per 20–40 kg b.w.). May be repeated after 24 h if necessary.
Dogs: Deep intramuscularly, 0.1 mL/kg. Depending on disease progression, treatment can be repeated at half the dose after 12 h, or at the full dose within 24 h to 7 days.
Note: Do not inject more than 20 mL in one site.
With rapid intravenous injection, hypersalivation, lacrimation, tremors, spontaneous urination and/or defecation may occur. After intramuscular injection, local reactions (swelling, hematoma) at the injection site may occur.
Withdrawal period: Not required.
