Composition:


Gentamicin sulfate, 30,g (equivalent to 29mg base); Sulfadimethoxine, 200mg; Trimethoprim, 40mg; Excipient up to 1 ml;


Pharmacological characteristics:


Gentaprim is a specially used for treatment of infectious processes which require permanent treatment, caused by germs sensitive to gentamicin and trimethoprim-sulfonamide.

Gentamicin is the aminoglycoside antibiotic of first choice due to the activity against most of the Gram-negative bacteria.

The spectrum is enhanced by the bactericide association of sulfadimethoxine-trimethoprim which includes Gram negative and Gram positive cocci, even so a great number of Gram negative bacilli, difficulting the appearance of resistences.


Effects:


- Cattle, swine, horses, sheep, cats and dogs:

It is used for treatment of infectious processes caused by germs sensitive to gentamicin and sulfadimetoxin-trimethoprim, including respiratory tract infections, metrities, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, uretritis, pasteurellosis, young animals diarrhea, mammitis.


Dosage:


- Cattle, swine, horses, sheep, cats and dogs:

1 ml per 10 kg bw every 12-24 hours for 3-5 days.

In persistemnt cases the drug can be administered for 7 days or a higher period as it is prescribed by the veterinarian. In renal insufficiency, the dose will be diminished according to the renal function.

Drug is madministered via intramuscular route. No intoxication was reported in case of overdosage. Traditional mesures must be taken in case of overdosage and sympthom treatment must be carried out.


Side effects:


In general gentaprim has no side effects, although sometimes local reactions may appear on the site of injection.


Interactions:


It should not be administered in conjunction with ototoxic and nephrotoxic agents. Do not associate with PABA for its antagonistic effect with sulfonamides.

Contraindications: Administer the drug cautiously in case of renal failure. In pregnant animals, the relation risk-benefit will be valued although it is not established toxicity of sulphonamides during gestation.


Withdrawal time:


Meat: 30 days: Milk: 4 days;

Not allowed its usage in horses producing meat for human consumption;


How supplied:


Bottles of 10ml, 40ml, 100ml and 250ml;


Storage conditions and shelf life:


Keep in dry and cool place that is protected from the light at the temperature of +80C - +150C. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.


Shelf life: 3 years
